5 Simple Steps To A Healthier Body
If you, like many of us, are hoping to live a healthier lifestyle and feel better, the following are 5 simple, easy and effective ways to get on that road to a healthier body and stay healthy. Best of all, these are also some of the most inexpensive ways towards a healthy lifestyle. Being healthy is the best gift you can give yourself.
The 5 effective and simple ways are:
1. Drink plenty of water.
You must have heard a thousand times before … but why is it so difficult to kickstart and stay on this habit? Drinking good old plain water not only keeps you hydrated, it also aids you in your digestion as well as keep your skin looking youthful. A habit of 5 glasses of water a day actually will help you with a higher energy level. Rather than picking up any other drink or beverage, pick up that glass of water and see the transformation in your health.
2. Eat food in moderation and plenty of greens.
Eat real food… not processed ones or those out of a tin. Also opt to include fruits, grains, and veggies in your everyday diet. Steer well clear of pre-packaged, processed and non-nutritious foods.
Do not over-eat… eat in moderation. It doesn’t matter if a calorie comes from broccoli or white bread, it’s still a calorie. If you eat excessive, you will gain weight. Having said that, wholemeal bread is always more nutritious than a slice of white bread. If you have options to any given food type, always opt for those with grains and less fats. Dairy products should always favor the low fat and low carb kind.
Eat plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts and salad (greens)… They usually taste good and these are exceptionally good for you as they contain plenty of fibre. There’s no reason not to incorporate more greens into your diet. You can have your meat and eat your fruit and veggies, too.
3. Have enough of sleep.
Sleep is often overlooked and underrated when it comes to being healthy. Your body needs rest like it needs food and water, so stop depriving it! If your current lifestyle keeps you from getting a good night’s sleep, then you should consider changing your lifestyle. Life is not all about work and making money. Insufficient sleep over prolong periods often lead to stress and heart related illnesses, not to mention the low energy level and lethargy. We need a minimum of 7 to 9 hours of sleep to regenerate and recover from the activities of the preceding day. So sleep, nap, go to bed early or wake up late. Whatever it takes, factor that 7 to 9 hours sleep in.
4. Take time to socialize and participate in group activities.
Good health doesn’t start and end with food and working out. Your mind and emotional state matter too. Making time to be social helps with depression, anxiety and stress. Give yourself the gift of happiness and socialize this year.
We need to do some form of exercise at least twice a week. Find a form of exercise that you enjoy and suits your current fitness level – eg tennis, running, brisk walking, soccer, zumba, aerobics etc. Start slow at a level that your current fitness level would allow you to stretch yourself without overloading your body and step up your exercise regime over time.
Take these simple steps and start looking and feeling better.
